watchOS 27 is expected to offer new Apple Watch faces, including a 'Modular Ultra' variant. This new face is a simplified take on the Ultra design, featuring a large central clock, three smaller complications below, and information around the bezel.
Overview
The 'Modular Ultra' variant is part of a broader effort to refresh watch faces, with multiple new designs, including 'Orchid,' currently in testing. The move aims to enhance user experience and appeal to a broader audience.
What it does
The new face has the same large clock as the Ultra face but removes the option for a big complication in the center, the row of three smaller complications above the time, and information placed around the bezel. The result is a large clock that fills the top two-thirds of the display, with a row of three smaller complications beneath it.
In its current form, the Modular Ultra offers seven complications and six options for the size and layout of the time. With the training bezels providing Vitals and training load, it's arguably the most info-dense face there is.
Tradeoffs
The new face is an attempt to bring the Ultra look to the standard Series watches in a way that dials down the density while still offering more at-a-glance information.
In practical terms, the introduction of new watch faces in watchOS 27 provides users with more options to customize their Apple Watch experience. This can be particularly useful for users who want to prioritize certain information or achieve a specific look on their watch.
