NVIDIA and IREN Announce Strategic Partnership to Accelerate Deployment of up to 5 Gigawatts of AI Infrastructure

"Utilities and tech giants converge as IREN and NVIDIA join forces to deploy a massive 5-gigawatt AI infrastructure backbone, leveraging NVIDIA's DSX architecture to power a new wave of large-scale AI applications and edge computing services across the globe."

NVIDIA and IREN Limited have announced a strategic partnership to accelerate the deployment of next-generation AI infrastructure. The partnership aims to support the deployment of up to 5 gigawatts of NVIDIA DSX-aligned AI infrastructure across IREN's global data center pipeline over time.

Overview

The partnership will combine NVIDIA's DSX AI factory architecture with IREN's expertise in power, land, data centers, GPU deployment, and infrastructure operations. This collaboration is intended to accelerate the buildout of next-generation AI infrastructure globally.

What it does

NVIDIA and IREN will work together to deploy NVIDIA accelerated compute in DSX AI factories, expanding access to AI-native, startup, and enterprise customers. The partnership also includes a five-year right for NVIDIA to purchase up to 30 million shares of IREN's ordinary stock at an exercise price of $70 per share, resulting in a potential investment of up to $2.1 billion.

The companies expect future deployments to focus on IREN's 2-gigawatt Sweetwater campus in Texas, which will serve as a flagship deployment for NVIDIA's DSX architecture. According to Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, "AI factories are becoming foundational infrastructure for the global economy."

Tradeoffs

The partnership is subject to certain conditions, including regulatory approvals. The companies have also noted that there are risks and uncertainties associated with the partnership, including the ability to successfully execute on growth strategies and operating plans.

In conclusion, the partnership between NVIDIA and IREN is expected to accelerate the deployment of large-scale AI infrastructure, combining NVIDIA's AI systems and architecture leadership with IREN's expertise in infrastructure operations. This collaboration has the potential to expand access to compute for AI-native and enterprise customers globally.
